Marian "Clover" Hooper Adams
Birth: Sep. 13, 1843
Death: Dec. 6, 1885
District Of Columbia, USA

According to John Alexander's "Ghosts, Washington's Most Famous Ghost Stories", Marian Adams' grave is marked by a hooded statue erected by her husband, the eccentric historian Henry Adams. Mr. Adams commissioned Augustus Saint-Gaudens to design the memorial known as "Grief". The grave statue has no date or inscription (as requested by her husband) so her birth and death date were forgotten for a time. She was found by her husband one cold winter night in the late 1880's, dead in front of the fireplace. It was eventually found that she'd commited suicide by swallowing potassium cyanide, but the newspaper reported that she had died of a heart attack. Clover was believed to have suffered from depression. It is said that the eyes of the statue appear alive, as though staring at you while you sit quietly. There are plenty of ghost stories concerning Marian Adams(and other interesting stories) in John Alexander's book if you wish to know more.
