John Arthur Adams, age 85, an Idaho Falls resident, died January 23, 1998, at Good Samaritan Care Center of natural causes.

He was born March 28, 1912, at Roberts, Idaho, to Aaron Arthur Alexander and Josephine Ledvina Adams. He attended schools in Roberts. He lived most of his life farming in New Sweden area and in Idaho Falls.

He married Sophie E. Haller July 3, 1933. From that union they had four children, Joyce Zimmerman of Las Vegas, Nev., Carolyne Jagger of Boise, Idaho, Arthur Richard Adams who preceded him in death, and John B. Adams of Denver, Colo. They were later divorced.

He married Ida Sommers July 3, 1965. From that union they had two children, Frank Hinckley of Idaho Falls, and Gloria Hansen of Idaho Falls. His wife, Ida preceded him in death. Mr. Adams farmed for 30 years. He later was a ditch rider for 12 years for the New Sweden Irrigation District.

He was Master of the New Sweden Grange. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge No. 52 and served as secretary for 12 years. He coached the New Sweden girls softball team and had been the secretary of the Community Church of Shelley. He was a member of the Methodist Church. He was an avid fisherman and loved sports, especially baseball.

He was also survived by a halfbrother, Thomas Adams of Kentucky; a halfsister, Virginia Nickel of Kentucky; 12 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, one grandson, his wife, Ida, two sisters and one brother.
