Alvina H. Adams, 91, town of Ludington, rural Fall Creek, passed away peacefully Saturday, March 8, 2008, at home with her family beside her.
Alvina Hilda, daughter of Fred and Emma (Krueger) Mahr, was born Feb. 11, 1917, at home in the town of Ludington. She was baptized into the Catholic faith Sept. 9, 1917, at St. Bridget's Church, and confirmed at Holy Ghost Catholic Church in 1928. She attended Clay Loam Elementary School, and graduated from Boyd High School with honors in 1935. On March 25, 1937, Alvina was united in marriage to Francis John Adams at Holy Ghost Parish in Chippewa Falls. To this union, eight children were born: Fran (Gerald) Bilderback of Eau Claire, Robert Adams of rural Fall Creek, Joyce (Robert) Wathke of Eau Claire, Frank Adams of Payson, Ariz., Jean Adams of Greendale, Kenneth (Karen) Adams of rural Fall Creek, Dr. Gerald (Bernadette) Adams of Norwalk and Janese Adams of Eau Claire.
Alvina is survived by 19 grandchildren, Julie Bilderback, Steve Bilderback, Jeanne Statz, Amy Albien, Randy Wathke, Brian Wathke, Sandy Lierman, Tammy Gavin, Mark Adams, Mike Adams, Wendell Adams, Corey Adams, Vonda Parriott, Angela Adams, Wesley Adams, Rose Adams, Holly Adams, Lily Adams, and Laurel Adams; 27 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Alvina and Frank lived the first four years of their married life in Cadott until moving to their dairy farm in rural Fall Creek, where they shared a deep dedication to farming and a love for animals. She was president of the Holy Rosary Society during the building of St. John the Apostle Catholic Church in Fall Creek and taught catechism for several years.
Alvina's interests included cooking, baking, gardening, canning and, above all, sewing. She was especially proud to make a patchwork quilt for each of her children and grandchildren. Deer hunting season was one of her favorite times of the year when the family farm turned into a hunter's paradise. In her early retirement, Alvina enjoyed traveling throughout much of the U.S. Her life was dedicated to her family and home, always striving for the best for her children.
Alvina was preceded in death by her husband, Frank J. Adams on Nov. 9, 1986; her parents, Fred and Emma Mahr, brother, Arnold Mahr; sister, Joanne Fetzek, and daughter-in-law, Pat Adams.
Alvina Adams will be remembered for her life of hard work, dedication to her Catholic faith and unwavering love for her husband and family.
The family would like to extend sincere appreciation and gratitude to Dr. Lily Liu, Community Health Partners, and St. Joseph's Hospice Care. Siblings wish to express special thanks to their brother, Robert, for his many years of dedicated care of their mother.
Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 13, 2008, at Sacred Heart Church on North Dewey Street in Eau Claire, with Rev. William Dhein officiating. Interment will be in St. Rose Cemetery, town of Sigel, Chippewa County.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m., with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m., on Wednesday, March 12, 2008, at Stokes, Prock and Mundt Funeral Chapel, 535 S. Hillcrest Pkwy. (Highway 12 East) in Altoona, and one hour prior to services Thursday at the church.
Eternal rest grant unto her, O Lord.
And let perpetual light shine upon her.
May the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.
Amen.
