Mrs. LUCY JANE ADAMS
Funeral services for Mrs. LUCY JANE ADAMS were held Monday morning at the family home on South Dixon, conducted by Rev. E. V. COLE of the Denton St. Methodist Church, of which denomination she had been a member more than 80 years. LUCY JANE SPENCE was born in Brownsville, Tennessee, March 15, 1828, and was 93 years old last March 15 at which a dinner, attended by more than 30 persons. For years she had been an invalid. On Feb. 20, 1852, Miss Spence became the wife of J. W. ADAMS, who preceded her in death some 20 years. During most of his residence here, Mr. Adams engaged in cattle business. Mr. and Mrs. Adams came to Texas from Missouri in 1859, locating near Paris. In the year following the Civil War, they moved to Gainesville and resided here. Blood of royal lineage ran in the veins of Mrs. Adams, she being a descendant of Lord ROSEBURY of England and of President BUCHANAN. Mrs. Adams is survived by the following children: Mrs. JENNIE LATHROP of Ardmore, Okla., Mrs. J. C. WICKER of Marietta, Okla., Miss MAGGIE ADAMS, Mrs. J. W. BARTLEY, Mrs. S. H. BILLS and J. T. ADAMS of Gainesville, Mrs. ELLA WELCH of Fort Worth, and Mrs. G. W. BARCLAY of Waco. She had 19 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. Active pallbearers: W. L. RICHARDS, J. T. WICKER, JOE LATHROP, RUSSELL LATHROP, J. A. LATHROP, JAMES M. ADAMS, all grandsons. Honorary pallbearers were Confederate veterans of the county. G. J. Carroll had charge of arrangements.
