The Rev. John Jessie Adams, 74, of Valdosta, formerly of Ashburn, died Monday, March 14, 2011, at Heritage Healthcare at Lakehaven in Valdosta. Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Omega Church of God.

The Rev. Wayne Hughes and the Rev. Jerry Greer will officiate with burial to follow at Omega Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 tonight in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. The body will be placed in the church one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.

Russell Gay, Carl Gay, Buddy McGill and Donald Smith will serve as pallbearers.

Rev. Adams was born on Jan. 30, 1937, in Turner County and was the son of Alvin Adams and Mary Shivers Adams, both deceased. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Evon Sumner Adams. He was a retired pastor with the Church of God and a member of Abundant Life Church of God in Valdosta. He attended Lee College in Cleveland, Tenn., and served in the National Guard.

Rev. Adams is survived by three daughters and two sons-in-law, Linda Carlson of Valdosta, Cindy and Chris Stephens of Omega and Mary and Thomas W. Dorminey of Valdosta; four sisters, Genny Gay of Irwinville, Jane Biggers of Stockbridge, Gertrude Musselwhite of Stockbridge and Eloise Roney of Eufaula, Ala.; two grandchildren, Brian Carlson and Emily Dorminey; and one great-grandson, Jonah Carlson.
