Benjamin F Adams received a bounty for enlisting as a private on March 1, 1862, at Gadsden, Alabama. He was wounded at the Battle at Gaines' Mill, Virginia, on June 27, 1862. His arm was amputated because of the wound, and he died from the effects, on or about August 1, 1862, at Richmond. His father, James Adams, filed for settlement on January 6, 1863.
