Obituary is from the August 30, 1918 issue of the Northern Neck News, Warsaw, Va.:

It is with mingled sorrow that we learn of the accidental death in France of Corporal Robert D. Adams, of White Stone. Until transferred to the 319th Infantry, Adams and myself were members of the same company, and all of his friends found his companionship most pleasant. A former student at the University of Virginia, he was a young man of exceptionally bright and talented mind. He was principal of Kilmarnock High School when called to the colors on the 30th of last March, Only one week ago I had a letter from him in which he told me of his life in France and of how proud he was to be over there as a soldier of the United States. The untimely death of our young hero carries with it but one great lesson, it is that of dedicating more completely our lives and all that we have to the cause of liberty and humanity, upon which alters he offered and gave his life. We cannot but believe that more of our Northern Neck service flags will bear the star of gold, but we are comforted by the knowledge that a brighter day will dawn some time, probably earlier than our most sanguine expectations. The commanding officer and other members of Adam's old command wish to extend their heartfelt condolence to his family. LAWRENCE W. EFFORD, Camp Lee, Aug. 25
