Mr. Charles Kenneth Adams, 69, 168 Maple Tree Lane, Watauga, Tenn., died Friday, May 8, 2009, in the James H. Quillen V.A. Medical Center, following an extended illness.

Mr. Adams was a native of Vineland, and had lived in Watauga since 1994. He was the son of the late Charles Victor and Mary Alice Saylor Adams. He was a graduate of Vineland High School; attended and graduated from Cumberland County College in Vineland with a criminal justice degree. Mr. Adams was retired as a police lieutenant from Vineland, and he had driven a school bus for the Carter County school system. He was a member of True Gospel Baptist Church and was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Police. Mr. Adams was a U.S. Navy veteran.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Ann Adams.

Survivors include his wife, Wilma Keplinger Adams, at home; four daughters, Donna Holden, Darlene Bacon, Danine Adams and Dayna Quiles and her husband, Mark, all of New Jersey; a son, David Adams and his wife, Christine, of Georgia; seven grandchildren, Deja Adams, Kesley Adams, Brianna Holden, Brittney Holden, Rachel Bacon, Caden Quiles and Jace Quiles; two step-daughters, Patsy Childress of Elizabethton, and Tina Gibson and her husband, Silas, of North Carolina; a step-son, Gary Presnell of Jonesborough; seven step-grandchildren, Nate Childress, Chelsea Childress, John Presnell, Luke Presnell, Sierra Presnell, Dustin Shaffer and Aaron Gibson; a sister, Joan Yacovelli of New Jersey; and a brother, Robert Adams and his wife, Marge of New Jersey; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service for Mr. Charles Kenneth Adams was conducted at 6 p.m. Sunday in the Sunset Chapel of Hathaway-Percy Funeral Home, Elizabethton, Tenn., with the Rev. Dean Presnell officiating. Music was under the direction of Patsy, Tina and Sierra. The family will receive friends at the residence, 168 Maple Tree Lane, Watauga, Tenn.

Graveside service and interment will be conducted at 10 a.m. today in Keplinger Cemetery in Washington County, Tenn.

Military honors will be accorded by the American Legion Post 49. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be Joe Saylor, Bob Carroll, Philo Chapman and Robert "Bob" Adams. Everyone will meet at Hathaway-Percy Funeral Home at 9 a.m. to go in procession to the cemetery.
