Curtis F. Adams Sr. Oct. 12, 1934 - May 16, 2009
ANGIER - Curtis F. Adams Sr. of Angier went to be with the Lord on Saturday, May 16, 2009, at his home with his wife and his three sons, along with his siblings, by his side.
Mr. Adams was born Oct. 12, 1934, to the late Clarence C. and Lilla Adams of Angier. Curtis was a graduate of Angier High School, Class of 1953, and also a graduate of East Carolina University with a B.S. degree in 1961.
He served two years in the U.S. Army, after which he returned to this home in Harnett County.
Upon returning, he owned and operated Adams' Farm Supply Store for a number of years until pursuing farming full time up until his death.
Curtis had a deep and abiding love for his church and church family. He served as Sunday school teacher for the Adult Men class for more than 35 years, served as a deacon and Baptist Men's director. He also served as Sunday school superintendent and was on numerous committees all at Neill's Creek Baptist Church. He was particularly interested in missions supporting the elderly and disabled.
Curtis was preceded in death by his parents and his oldest sister, Maxine Campbell
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Judith Wheeler Adams; and sons, Curtis F. Adams Jr. and wife Tiffany of Raleigh, Bartley Adams and wife Nancy of Willow Spring, Alex Adams and wife Leigh of Angier. Curtis was the proud grandfather of six grandchildren, Victoria, Paige, Jackson, Drew, Lily and Benjamin Adams. Surviving siblings include Edith Currin, Faye Jones, Hilda Lee and C.C. "Billy" Adams Jr.
Curtis will be remembered by his family and friends for his wit, humor and good-natured teasing of everyone. He enjoyed friends, family, community history and sports. He will be deeply missed by all whose life he touched. He was a man who lived life to the fullest.
His homecoming celebration was held at 2 p.m. at Neill's Creek Baptist Church on May 19. Interment followed at Lakeside Memorial Gardens in Angier.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Baptist Men of Neill's Creek Baptist Church or Hospice of Harnett County.
