Asa Manuel Adams was born near Maxwell's Ferry, on Dugdemonia in Winn Parish, Louisiana, on August 14, 1852, went peacefully to his heavenly home Saturday, March 9, 1940 at one o'clock p.m.

Mr. Adams lived most of his life in Winn and Grant Parishes. The exception to this was seven years of his late boyhood in Bienville Parish, near Sarepta, and two years in Erath County, Texas, in the late seventies.

He was married to Miss Laura Ann Presley in October 1885, who preceded him in death on March 14, 1919. Seven children came of this union. Ellie, the eldest daughter died in 1910. The others are Claude of Port Neches, Texas; Mrs. Ellis Teddlie of Atlanta; Willie of Shreveport, Richard of Shart [sic Start?], Mrs. Eugene Beck of Winnfield and Mrs. Glynn Wyatt of St. Maurice. Mrs. Palmer Gilbert and Mrs. Billie Howeth, of Port Arthur and Tyler, Texas, respectively are granddaughters reared in the home of decedent after the death of their mother, Ellie. There are 17 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.

Mr. Adams was converted and joined the Baptist church in his early manhood, and was ordained deacon more than 40 years ago. For years he was the senior deacon in his church and a recognized leader in the religious and civic life of his community.

His children and grandchildren and hundreds of friends and neighbors whom he had influenced for good rise up to call him blessed after they have bowed to give thanks to God for his life of usefulness.

His body was laid to rest in Mars Hill Cemetery near Verda, La., Sunday afternoon, March 10. Funeral services were conducted by his pastor, Rev. O. L. Hughes, of Winnfield, assisted by Rev. Moses Mercer, of Colfax, a former pastor.

Pallbearers were the six sons-in-law of the deceased.
