Notorious Woman Succumbs to Dropsy at Hospital - After a lingering illness with dropsy, Lucy Ward Adams died late yesterday afternoon at St Elizabeth hospital. She had been in the institution two weeks and her suffering was intense. She was best known as Flo Wilcox and for years was queen of the local demimonde,. For a long time she conducted a notorious resort on South Fifth street, where she owned a house. She was for years one of the most notorious women in Lafayette and caused the police much trouble. Several years ago the authorities made it so unpleasant for her that she sold the fifth street property and her last place of residence was on North Sixth street. She had a bad temper and had figured in many brawls in which people were badly injured. Her sister, who lives near Reynolds, was at her bedside during the last moments. Flo Wilcox was born and reared in White county, near Reynolds, and was about 50 years old. Her maiden name was Lucy Ward. She came to Lafayette about thirty years ago and began the notorious career that continued until she was taken sick. She discarded her maiden name years ago out of respect to her relatives. The remains were taken from the hospital to the Flockemer undertaking establishment to be prepared for burial. The funeral will be held at 10 o'clock to-morrow morning from the undertaking parlors. Rev Edgar L Buchanan will officiate and the burial will be in Springvale Cemetery.
