Dolores Ward Schmelzer, 80, of Nampa passed away Nov. 29, 2002, in a Boise medical center.

Dolores Schmelzer was born Sept. 25, 1922, in Omaha, Neb., to Emery and Mary Burks Adams. Dolores joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1951 and was very active in her church serving in many capacities. She worked as a teacher in the Primary, taught Boy Scouts and was a teacher in the Mutual program. She was in the Mutual Presidency and was camp crafts leader for three years. She worked as Jr. Sunday School Coordinator and was also active in the Relief Society Presidency in two wards. She also was a Visiting Teacher since joining the church and was a home teacher partner with her husband in Nampa 8th Ward as well as helping him with special interest groups. Dolores was very active in civic groups outside her church as well. She was a Cub Scout leader, headed drives for the Cancer Society and the March of Dimes over seven cities. She served as a Jr. High PTA president of the Mar Vista Women's Club. Dolores was president of Welcome Wagon Club in Nampa and belonged to the Women's Century Club for many years and served as treasurer for two years. Dolores loved music and sang with the senior citizens choral group for many years singing in nursing and retirement homes, churches and civic groups.

She is survived by her three sons, Kenny Smart of Northridge, Calif., Raymond Smart of Nampa, and Wesley Smart of Bellflower, Calif., six grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
