Philbert Emmanuel Adams, 92, formerly of St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands, passed away Tuesday, December 19, 2012 at York Lutheran Home at Sprenkle Drive. He was preceded in death by his wife Asseleta Adams, mother Alberta Thomas and father Darias Adams. Born January 3, 1920, in Antigua, West Indies, he was the son of the late Alberta Thomas and Darias Adams. He was a devoted father, grandfather and great grandfather. Philbert was a member of Stillmeadow Church of the Nazarene, Buffalo First Church of the Nazarene, and was also formerly a member of Beeston Hill Wesleyan Church in St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Island. He leaves to mourn nine children, Estella Chambers (Bernet), Joycelyn Ward, Myrna Francis, Lilette Diamond, Elma Adams-Parker (Curtis), Esther Sargent (Paul I), Samuel Adams (Regina), Wayne Adams, Edison Adams; 17 grandchildren: Dean Ward (Suzanne), Ultressa Diamond, Angeline Richardson (Paul), Marcus Ward, Tiffany Adams, Candace Sargent, Laundrew Diamond, Clydiene Liverman, Paul Sargent II (Kristel), Camron Francis, Brandon Adams, Cecilia Sargent, Wayne Adams Jr., Denise Adams, Jala Adams, J. Edison Adams II, Eleazar James, and; 10 great-grandchildren, Isaiah Miller, Cole Francis, Ami Richardson, Joshua Richardson, Daniel Ward, Case Liverman, Ciya Liverman, Joyia Adams, Aaron Richardson and Isabella Sargent; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and various family members. Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. with a viewing from 10 to 11 a.m. at Stillmeadow Church of the Nazarene, 400 Stillmeadow Lane with Rev. Herb Hartman, Rev. David Brown, and Chaplain Gustaf "Hank" Steinhilber officiating. Burial will be at Prospect Hill Cemetery, 700 N. George Street. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions may be made to York Lutheran Home and Rehab Center, 1801 Folkemer Circle and Stillmeadow Church of the Nazarene, 400 Stillmeadow Lane, all in York.
