Newton County native and lifelong resident, Herman Pearl Adams , age 89, died October 3, 2006, at his home in Covington. The son of the late C. Paul and Dessa Edwards Adams, he was a member of First Baptist Church in Covington, American Legion Post 32, and a past member of the Lions Club and Elks Club. Mr. Adams worked as a Supervisor in the Engineering Section of the Georgia Department of Transportation for 35 years. A U.S. Army Veteran, he served as a Medic during World War II, and often escorted deceased veterans back home.

Mr. Adams is survived by his wife of 64 years, Catherine Dial Adams; son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Lanier and Emily Adams of Augusta; daughter and son-in-law, Bubba and Kaye Phillips of Covington; grandchildren, Nedra Blankenship, Richie Blankenship, Dessa Adams, Will Adams, Meg Adams and Serra Phillips; sister, Isabelle Avery of Covington; brothers and sisters-in-law, John W. and Virginia Adams of Augusta, Paul and Jeanne Adams of Covington.

Funeral Services for Mr. Adams will be held Friday, October 6, 2006, at First Baptist Church, Covington, with Rev. Len Strozier and Rev. J.J. Wilson officiating, and interment following at Lawnwood Memorial Park.
