Bessie was born to Bennie and Rosalie Lee (Watkins) Culbreath. She married Earnest Wardell Adams on Oct. 30, 1937, in Crittenden County, Ark. He preceded her in death on Oct. 22, 1982.

She leaves three sons, Melvin (Carol) Adams, Lonnie Ray Adams and William (Maynell) Adams; two daughters, Rosemary (Edward) Bolden and Cora Esther (Billy) Williams; one sister, Bernice J. Bowens; seven grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews; and her only surviving aunt, Ruth Dixon.

She was also preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Doris Lorine Eaton and Lue Gert Shell.

Bessie was a homemaker. She was formerly an at-home beautician that was known to travel to other homes to do hair when needed.

In her youth, she was a past member of Salem Baptist Church in Mason, Tenn. She later became a faithful member of St. Paul Baptist Church.
