Birth: Dec. 3, 1935
Death: Mar. 3, 2007

Edwin Steve Adamek, 71, loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend was called home to the Lord on March 3, 2007 after a courageous seven year battle with cancer.

He was born on Dec. 3, 1935, to John and Adela Sladek Adamek in the Friendship Community. He attended Friendship School and Granger High School, graduating in 1954. While working in Dallas building bridges for Interstate 35, he met Kathryn Nelson. They were married on May 10, 1957. He then worked for Bell Helicopter and lived in Grand Prairie.

His love for farming brought them back to Granger in 1962, where he resided for the remainder of his life as a farmer and rancher.

Edwin was an active member of the Granger Brethren Church, serving many years on the Board of Elders. He was a member for over 50 years of the Taylor SPJST Lodge #29, serving 19 years as president. He was on the Farm Bureau Board of Directors, Bell Milam Falls Water Board of Directors and the FSA Committee. He also enjoyed working with the Friendship Reunion Committee and helped with attaining the historical marker for that community.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Helen Klepac and Josephine Brosch; and brother Johnny Adamek.

He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years and 10 months, Kathryn, of Granger; daughter Edwina and husband Tim Jezisek of Granger; two grandsons, Aaron Jezisek of Granger and Adam Jezisek and his fiancée Kristen Golbow of Katy; sisters, Mary Wentrcek and husband Ed of Granger and Marge Klepac of Aransas Pass; sister-in-law Dorothy Adamek of Grand Prairie; brother-in-law Sonny Nelson and wife Pat of Caddo Mills; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Edwin enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing dominoes - winning numerous tournaments. He will now join those partners who also have been called to their heavenly home.

Serving as pallbearers will be his nephews, Sonny Lynn Nelson, Tommy Nelson, Jimmy Wentrcek, Larry Klepac, Randy Adamek, Daniel Brosch Jr. and Michael Klepac. Honorary pallbearers will be Anton Schwertner, Curtis Ging, Jim Marek, Vic Wilhelm, Michael Wentrcek, Kenneth Jarosek, Ron Reed, Jesse Pospisil and Jerry Lalla.

Visitation will be held at the Goodnight Funeral Home in Bartlett on Monday, March 5, from 6-8 p.m. The funeral will be held on Tuesday, March 6, at 10 a.m. at the Granger Brethren Church with the Rev. Albert Michalek officiating. Burial will follow at the Granger Brethren Church Cemetery.

The Adamek Family wishes to thank Dr. Jerry Fain and the staff of the Southwest Regional Cancer Center of Georgetown and all the staff members of Vista Care Hospice who so graciously took care of Edwin. Special thanks also to the numerous friends, family and "special angels" who provided ongoing support and prayers in numerous ways.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Granger Brethren Church or to Vista Care Foundation, 7800 Shoal Creek Blvd., Suite 130W, Austin, Texas 78757, in Edwin's memory.

Goodnight Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
