Billy Acuff, 85, a past resident of Paris, Mo. and a former dentist in Boonville, Missouri, died Wednesday, May 25, 2011 in Mount Juliet, Tennesse at his home. Visitation will be at the First Christian Church of Boonville from 12:00 noon until 1:00 pm on Wednesday, June 1, 2011. His funeral service will immediately follow the visitation, beginning at 1:00 pm with Dr. Dan Crum officiating. Burial will be at Walnut Grove Cemetery. Billy was born on Januray 24, 1926 to Mary Helms and Harry Acuff. After graduating from High School in 1944 he entered the Army Air Corps and was sent to Mindanao in the Philippines to serve as a radio operator. In May of 1946 Bill was honorably discharged and returned home to Missouri to continue his education. In 1950 he graduated from the University of Missouri with a Bachelor's of Art degree. In June of 1951 Bill was accepted into the FBI as a field agent. Before reporting for duty he married Anna Ruth McGee. After resigning from the FBI he entered the Kansas City School of Dentistry in September of 1955. To help with finances he also took a job as a radio operator at night for the Missouri State Highway Patrol. After graduation, Bill moved his family to Boonville, Missouri where he began his practice as an associate dentist and soon operated his own practice at 605 Main Street in Boonville, Missouri. He was a member of the Boonville Golf and Country Club, the Rod and Gun Club and served as the president of the Lions Club from 1966 to 1967. Bill enjoyed fly fishing, quail, dove and pheasant hunting and aviation. In the early 1970's he purchased a single engine Cessna for the family and enjoyed many hours of aviation and vacation trips with his family and friends. He is survived by two sons, Wesley Acuff of Montreal, Mo., Dallas Acuff of Columbia, Mo.; one daughter, Rae Anna Frame of Mount Juliet, Tn.; one brother, Jack Acuff of Farmington, N.M.; six grandchildren, Richard, Rachel, Carrie Ann, Candace, Cameron, Lea Anna; and two great-grandchildren, Austin and Erin.
Mr. Acuff was preceded in death by his wife, Anna; and two sisters, Betty Warren and Bobby Holsheiser.
