Apolonio "Apples" passed away surrounded by family and friends.

Apolonio was survived by his wife of 55 years, Dorothy; daughter Romie McCoy (husband Orlando); sons: Patrick and Paul Acosta, all of Albuquerque; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and sister Mary Morales.

Apples served in the Korean conflict aboard the Fletcher-class Destroyer USS Owen (DD-536). The Owen was awarded 2 Battle Stars for its service in Korea. Apples enjoyed hunting, bowling and going to the casino.

A Viewing and Visitation were held on March 15, 2012 in the Reflection of Life Chapel (Washington and Cutler NE). A Rosary, followed by a Mass were on March 16, 2012 at St. Joseph at the Rio Grande Catholic Church. Burial followed at Santa Fe National Cemetery. Pallbearers: Lee Acosta, Randy McCoy, John Sedillo, Paul R. Acosta, David Acosta and Pete Leyba Jr.
