| Birth: | May 11, 1925 | | Death: | Nov. 1, 2009 |  E. Machias- Gordon W. Ackley, died Nov 1, 2009 at his home. He was born May 11, 1925 in Machiasport, the son of Jasper and Annie (Sullivan) Ackley. He grew up the fifth child in a large family of eight at the East Side of the Port. Gordon served in the United States Army during WWII. After the war, he was employed by Rier Buick , from which he retired after 42+ years of service. He dearly loved to bowl and had many trophies in his display case. He was an avid outdoorsman and spent all his life fishing and hunting the woods and waters of his beloved state. There are many pictures and memories of him posing beside the fish and game that he hunted and caught during a colorful and varied lifetime. He was especially fond of the trophy buck mount, unquestionably one of his best. He survived by a brother James and his wife Mary, sons Robert and his children Wayne and Gwen, Carroll and his wife Pat and their daughters Tina, Sharon, and Shirley, Larry and Sherry, and their children Amanda, Mariah, and Kane. Theodore Tibbetts and his wife Allison, their daughter, Penny and her husband Kevin, numerous great grandchildren. He will be Sadly missed by his friend and companion of many years, Sylvia Preston. They were planning another season of hunting together at �The Camp� in Searsmont. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by brothers and sister; Herman, Newton,Lewellyn, Barbara, Margaret �Peggy�, and Eleanor, Sons and stepsons, Gordon Jr., John Tibbetts, Leland Tibbetts, grandson, Carroll Jr. A graveside service will be held 10am Saturday November 7, 2009 at the Jacksonville Cemetery.
