Sandy was born on January 4, 1946, in Lincoln, the daughter of Carl F. and Mildred M. Purlee Ackerson.
She married Dennis L. Freeman June 6, 1978 in Lincoln. He survives in Lincoln. Sandy is also survived by six children, Veronica L. (Douglas) Hanlen, Robert (Paula) Kodatt, Steven (Donna Schaffer, fiancé) Kodatt, Michael (Brenda) Kodatt, Marty Freeman and Gayle Freeman; one brother: Robert (Venita) Ackerson; twelve grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Sandy worked for 31 years at Lincoln Developmental Center, Lincoln as a registered nurse until they closed. She then worked at St. Clara's Manor for eight years and retired as assistant director of nursing. Nursing was her life and she was very dedicated. She was a very thoughtful person for others even in her last days. Sandy was someone that everyone loved to be around and she loved unconditionally. She will be missed very much by her family and friends.
Services will be Friday, August 10, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home, Lincoln with Rev. Robert Henderson officiating. Burial will be in New Union Cemetery, Lincoln. Visitation will be Thursday, Aug. 9 from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the American Lung Association or St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.
