Mr. Ackerman was born in Berkeley County, a son of Joseph T. Ackerman and Sally Morris Ackerman.
He was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of the DAV. He was of the Holiness faith.
He was survived by a daughter, Linda A. Yarborough of Jamestown; two sons, Hogel Carrol Ackerman of Shurlerville and Joseph Harland Ackerman of North Charleston; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
He and his ex-wife, Eula Lee Lambert Ackerman, had divorced.
He was predeceased by a son, Clarence Carnell Ackerman.
Funeral services were Friday, July 7, 1995, in Dial-Murray Funeral Home in Moncks Corner. Burial followed in Halfway Creek Cemetery.
