Opal Vastine Crowe, 80, Denver, formerly of Topeka, died Sunday, Dec. 10, 2000, at a Thornton, Colo., nursing home.

She was born Oct. 5, 1920, in Alva, Okla., to William Henry and Emma Piper Achemire, and she spent her early life in Alva. She moved to Dodge City in 1945 and to the Topeka area in 1975. She lived in Topeka and Silver Lake before moving to Denver several months ago. She was employed in the Kansas Social and Rehabilitation Services foods program before she retired in 1987.

She was a member of Town and Country Christian Church in Topeka, Soroptomist Club, Epsilon Sigma Alpha business sorority and the auxiliaries to Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion.

She married John Milton Crowe on Oct. 9, 1949, in Dodge City. He died April 21, 1995.

Survivors include a son, Toby Crowe, Denver; and two granddaughters.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Parker-Price Mortuary. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Crowe will lie in state after 3 p.m. Wednesday at the mortuary where relatives and friends will meet from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday.
