Deceased Name: Dr. Leonard F. Abramson
Dr. Leonard F. Abramson, 86, of East Superior Street, a Duluth dentist in practice for 60 years, died Wednesday, Sept. 18, 1996, in St. Marys Hospital in Rochester, Minn.

A lifelong Duluth resident, he was a graduate of Central High School and a 1934 graduate of the University of Minnesota Dental School.

Dr. Abramson was a two-year Air Force veteran of World War II, having served in the European Theater.

He was a member of Adas Israel Synagogue and the Jewish Fellowship Club, the American Legion, a lifetime member of the VFW and a member of the Air Force Officers Club. He was a member of the Northeast District Dental Society, the Minnesota Dental Association and was awarded lifetime memberships in the Chicago Dental Association and the American Dental Association.

He served on boards of both St. Luke's and St. Mary's hospitals in Duluth and received an award in 1985 from St. Mary's in recognition of his many years of service on the medical staff.

Throughout his career, Dr. Abramson worked on developing products and techniques related to sterilization and infection control. In 1970, he received an award from Johnson & Johnson for creativity in the field of dentistry.

He became the first dentist in the U.S. to develop a means of sterilizing the dental drill handpiece at the chair, and received worldwide acknowledgement for his research.

Besides his family and his profession, Dr. Abramson's other "life-love" was helping people, which he did throughout his life. He was someone who made a difference in the lives of many people who came to know him.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years on Oct. 3, Rose; a son, Wesley of St. Paul; a daughter, Marla of Minneapolis; a sister, Vivian of Portland, Ore.; two brothers, Bill of Milwaukee and Palmer of Minneapolis; and two grandchildren, Paige and Jody.

Services: 1:30 p.m. today in Johnson Mortuary. Interment will be in Adas Israel Cemetery, Rice Lake Township. Arrangements are by Johnson Mortuary.

The family requests that memorials be sent to the Mayo Clinic or the medical research institution of your choice.
