SHREVEPORT, LA – Samuel Abramson, a life-long resident of Shreveport, LA passed away February 8, 2000. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Mary G. Abramson. Born in 1911, Sam was the youngest son of Dr. Louis Abramson and wife, Bella and brother to Louis and Paul D. All predeceased him.
He is survived by his daughter, Adelle A. Shaw and husband, Dr. LeRoy B. Shaw; grandsons, Erik T. Shaw and Chad A. Shaw, and family Jean Jacobsohn, Lee Wing, Eugenie Abramson, Lucy Brainis, Paul Abramson, Bert Weil and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Sam was active member of the community. He was a member of B'nai Zion Temple. He had served as Commander of Post 14 of the American Legion, Chef de Gare of the 40 and 8 Society, President of the B'nai Zion Temple, Member of the Committee of 100, board member of the Chamber of Commerce, the Goodwill Society, Rotary Club Downtown, Past Master of the Shreveport Lodge #115, a Shriner, and 33rd Degree Scottish Rite Mason. Sam served in World War II and was a Major when discharged after the war. Although he was an attorney, Sam devoted his business career to ML Bath Co. He was CEO of ML Bath Co. when it was sold in 1983. When not occupied with community or business activities, Sam could be found on the tennis court. He played tennis for Byrd High School, Centenary College and LSU, where he was Captain of the Team in 1930. He truly enjoyed tennis his entire adult life. Sam was known for his wonderful ability to get along with people; he always had a new joke to tell his friends and acquaintances. Sam will be missed by all who knew him.
Those wishing to remember Sam should make donations to the charity of choice. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, February 11, 2000 at Osborn Funeral Home at 3631 Southern Ave. in Shreveport, Louisiana. The family will receive mourners between 6 until 8 p.m. on Thursday, February 10th at Osborn Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Peter Jacobsohn, Bert Weil, David Brainis, Joe Brainis, Gary Fox, Ben Coleman, and Bob Mayo. Honorary pallbearers will be Sam's tennis friends.
