Eunice Floreida Abrahamson, 97 years of age, of Holdrege passed away on Tuesday, January 15, 2013 at the Christian Homes Care Community in Holdrege. Eunice was born on October 8, 1915 at Hallandale Beach, Florida, the eldest of four children born to Arthur and Mabel (Matson) Peterson who were both born and grew up in the Bertrand, Nebraska area. Eunice attended schools in Iowa, Minnesota and Nebraska, where her father was pastor of Augustana Lutheran Churches. She attended Luther College in Wahoo, Nebraska.

While attending Luther College in Wahoo, she met Eugene Lorenz Abrahamson. They were married on October 17, 1936 in Wakefield, Nebraska and made their first home in Funk, Nebraska. To this union three children were born: Wayne, Suzanne and Dale. The younger son, Dale, passed away in 1963.

In 1954, Eugene and Eunice moved to western Colorado near Hotchkiss seeking a warmer and drier climate for the health of their son, Dale. They were blessed by the change in weather which added a few years to Dale's life.

Eunice was on the church board most of the years they lived in Colorado. She taught Sunday School and sang in the choir as well. Eunice tried to fulfill her responsibilities as a citizen by serving as vice-chairman of the Delta County Republican Central Committee for 10 years. She represented Delta County in the 1960 Mother of the Year contest.

Eunice and Eugene traveled extensively while they lived in Colorado. They toured Europe a couple of times. They made a trip around the world in 1967, a trip through Nigeria and east Africa in 1970, later one through South America, another to Australia and New Zealand and numerous visits to Hawaii and Mexico.

In 1979, the couple retired and moved back to Holdrege after an absence of nearly 26 years. Eugene passed away on January 3, 2001. Eunice began to make her home at the Christian Homes Care Community in 2002.

Besides her parents, husband, Eugene and son, Dale, she was preceded in death by: brother, Lorenz Peterson; sister, June Peterson; and great-grandson, Brandon.

Eunice is survived by: daughter, Suzanne Arnold of Sierra Vista, Arizona; son, Wayne Abrahamson and his wife, Susan of Borger, Texas; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; one great-great-great-grandchild; sister, Euphemia Berkeland of Lake City, Minnesota; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Interment was in the Fridhem Lutheran Cemetery, Funk, NE.
