Mrs. Nita Ablowich, 84, died Thursday at 7:30 a.m. at the Greenville Medical Hospital after an illness of one month.

Services will be at Coker-Mathews-Peters Funeral Chapel at 2 p.m. Saturday with the Revs. W.R. Corrigan and Albert Click officiating. Burial will be the Forest Park Cemetery here.

Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Edward Surgeon of Forth (sic) Worth; three sons, Dave Ablowich Jr. of Pomona, Calif., Edgar Ablowich of Greenville James Ablowich of Commerce; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Ablowich, who lived at 1507 Park St., was born Jan. 4, 1882 in Sulphur Springs, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W.R. Jacobs. She was a member of the Kavanaugh Methodist Church, the Pallas Club, the Altrusa Club and Greenville Garden Club.

Mrs. Ablowich married David J. Ablowich in 1902 in Sulphur Springs. Her husband preceded her in death in June of 1942.

Funeral for Mrs. Dave Ablowich Sr., 84, a resident of Greenville for many years and one of the first two women appointed to serve as a member of teh Greenville Board of Education, will be held at 2 p.m. today at Coker-Mathews-Peters Funeral Chapel.

The Rev. W.R. Corrigan, pastor of Kavanaugh Methodist Church, and the Rev. Albert Click will officiate. Interment will be in Forest Park Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Ralph Taylor, Walter Harris, Clarence Gafford, A.S. Moore Jr., Ed C. Callahan of Greenville, Harry Gaston of Dallas, Bruce Peak and George Kibler of Commerce.

Mrs. Ablowich died at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in a Greenville hospital following an illness of several days. She was a resident of 1507 Park St.

Born in Sulphur Springs, Jan. 4, 1882, Nita Jacobs Ablowich was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W.R. Jacobs. She graduated from Sulphur Springs High School and continued her education in Central College in Sulphur Springs. In 1902 she married David J. Ablowich, East Texas businessman, and he preceded her in death in 1942.

Mrs. Ablowich was known throughout this area as a cive, club and church worker. She had been a member of the Pallas Club since 1919 and served as president of the club in 1928, 1933 and 1957.

A charter member of the Grenville Garden Club, she was one of its organizers. This was the first organized garden club in Greenville. In this organization and in other groups she served on various committees and also in district club work.

One of the early members of the Greenville Altrusa Club, Mrs. Ablowich opened her home for Golden Age Club entertainment for senior citizens and was an enthusiastic sponsor for this group. She also organized the first Mothers Club in Greenville, which later became known as Parent-Teachers Association.

Following the death of her husband, Mrs. Ablowich became active in the management of the New Furniture Co., with her son, Edgar Ablowich, and continued active in the operation of the business until a few months ago when her health failed.

Known as a patron of the arts, Mrs. Ablowich also gave support to civic and beautification programs throughout this area. She was active in Red Cross work and her home was open to youth during the time her children were attending Greenville schools. She was an active member in Kavanaugh Methodist Church.

Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Edward Surgeon of Fort Worth; three sons, Dave Ablowich Jr. of Pomona, Calif., Edgar Ablowich of Greenville and James Ablowich of Commerce; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
