St Matthews, May 14--Dr A R Able, a prominent citizen of this place, died this morning at 6 o'clock. For some time he had not been in robust health but until very recently had continued to go to his office. He was nearly 76 years old.
He was born July 2, 1850, in what was then the village of Edgefield and spent his early years there. In early namhood he moved to Lexington county, where he spent several years in the practice of medicine after graduating from the Medical college of the University of Georgia.
For the last 45 years he had lived at St Matthews and until very recently had been actively engaged in practice.
He was a faithful member of the St Matthews Baptist church and was for years clerk of the Lexington Baptist association and later of the Orangeburg Baptist association. For any years he was an active member of the local board of health and for more than 40 years he was secretary of the St Matthews Democratic club, which, at its last meeting about two weeks ago, adopted resolutions expressing appreciation of his services.
