Okay, OK-ABERNATHY, Bertha M., 84, Prestolite Co., assembly line worker, died Wednesday. Services pending, Shipman Funeral Home & Crematory, Wagoner.
On November 8, 1925 Isaac and Linnie Davis were blessed with the birth of the daughter, Bertha Mae. She accepted Christ at an early age. She attended Lincoln High School in Wagoner and after completion, attended beauty school. She then met the love of her life William Howard Abernathy Sr. They were married on December, 24, 1943, and to this union three children were born. They were able to share 52 years of marital bliss before his death in 1996. Bertha wore many hats in life. First and foremost she was a loving mother and grandmother and loved spending Sunday afternoons with her family. She also was an active member of St. John Baptist Church where she was a member of the Mission board and also known as the mother of the church. She was a member of the Eastern Star. Bertha worked for the Taft Institute and then for Prestolite Inc. where she worked for 14 years until her retirement in 1986. After retirement, Bertha became active in gardening, sewing and quilting. Bertha was preceded in death by her parents Isaac and Linnie Davis, her husband William, her sister Augusta Jones, her brothers, Luther Terrell and Ivory Washington and one granddaughter Jamesetta Blandon. She leaves to cherish her memory: one son William Abernathy Jr. (Faye); two daughters Joyce Jackson (Robert); and Trudy Blandon all of Wagoner. Eleven grandchildren; Robert Jackson III (Angela); Treva, James and LaKisha Blandon; Stephanie White (Rashaan); William Abernathy III; Shonika Breedlove; Jeneice Abernathy; LaKeesha McNac (Arthur); Ronnie and Donnie McMullen. She also leaves 15 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. Two sisters: Mattie Oliver of Tulsa and Virginia Davis of Nashville TN, and one sister-in-law Nola Terrell of Los Angeles, CA; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Also Dr. Hanna and the staff of Sol Amor Hospice who provided her with great comfort during her last days. Services will be held 11:00 AM Monday, November 1st, 2010 at the St. John Baptist Church with burial in Evergreen Cemetery at Gibson Station, Oklahoma. Funeral arrangement are under the directions of Shipman Funeral Home & Crematory in Wagoner, Oklahoma.
