Emma Shafer Aberly, age 102, of New Bern, died Saturday, Feb. 28, 2004, at Christian Care of New Bern.

She was the daughter of the late Emma Elizabeth Shafer (1867-1939) and William Frederick Aberly (1865-1942).

Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 2, 2004, at Cotten Chapel with Rev. Shirley Rogers officiating.

Burial will follow at Cedar Grove Cemetery.

She is survived by a nephew, William F. Aberly and wife, Evelyn, and great-nephews, William J. Aberly and Robert M. Aberly, all of Jacksonville, Fla.; a niece, Betty Aberly and great-niece, Lane Aberly Mitterling and husband, Norman, all of New Bern; and great-great nephews, Norman Mitterling, III, and wife, Linda, John Robert Mitterling and wife, Sandra, and five great-great-great nieces, Laura, Marianna, Nicole, Maggie and Sarah, all of Raleigh.
