FOREST GROVE - Funeral for Adolph Abendroth, native Portlander who resided on Star Route, Gales Creek, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Prickett's Forest Grove Memorial Chapel. Mr. Abendroth was 82. He died Oct. 16 in a Forest Grove hospital.
Born to Carl and Theresa Abendroth, he attended Failing School in Portland and in 1895 homesteaded with his father in the Glenwood area. In 1900 he established the Abendroth Printing Comapany and during that time did work for The Oregonian.
In 1920 he moved to Glenwood to farm and serve as school board clerk. After that he served as greenskeeper for the Seaside Golf Course during 1924.
From 1924 until 1929, he operated the Fernwood Grocery in Portland, and during 1930 he operated the sternwheeler vessel "Cowlitz" on the Columbia and Willamettte rivers. The following year, he established a new printing company in Portland, operating that until retirement in 1940.
In subsequent years he bought, repaired and sold equipment via steamship and railroad auctions.
His wife, Elsa Busse, to whom he married in Glenwood in 1929, preceded him in death in Forest Grove last March.
Mr. and Mrs. Abendroth were charter members of the Tualatin Valley Gem Club organized in 1957. Before that, they were active in the Columbia Gorge Rock Hounds of Corbett.
Survivors include a son, Telore of Lincoln City; a daughter, Mrs. Laurita Leuthold of Government Camp; a brother, Albert of San Francisco, Calif.; and seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Concluding services will be at Forest View Mausoleum.
