Benedict "Ben" O'Neal Abell, 71, 438 North Street, Lebanon, died at 3:30 a.m. July 5 at VAMC in Louisville.
Mr. Abell was a native of Marion County, a veteran of World War II and a member and post commander of the Disabled American Veterans, a member of the Lebanon senior citizens and a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church. He was a retired sign maker. He was preceded in death by his wife, Emma, and his parents Clarence and Mahala O'Neal Abell.
Survivors include: two daughters, Mrs. Joan A. Browning of Braton Florida and Karen S. Laco of Lake Staiton, Ind.; three sisters, Mrs. Verna A, Ward, Mrs. Generose A. Shewmaker, and Mrs. Mary A. Spalding, of Lebanon; one brother, Howard "Cotton" Abell of Lebanon; five grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted at 11:00 a.m., July 8 at St. Augustine Catholic Church with burial in Lebanon National Cemetery. Rev. Ivo Cecil officiated.
Pallbearers were Bob Abell, John Shewmaker, Bob Shewmaker, Butch Shewmaker, Pat Thomas and J. C. Mattingly.
Campbell Funeral Home, Lebanon, was in charge of arrangements.
