Joseph A. Abel, Jr., 90, of Rutland died Tuesday June 10, 2014, at Mountain View Center.

He was born in Lowell, Mass., Sept. 12, 1923, the son of Joseph A. and Gladys (Greene) Abel, Sr.

He was a graduate of Rutland High School, class of 1941. He served in World War II in the 36th Division Infantry in England, France, Belgium, Germany and Austria. Mr. Abel was employed for many years at Abel's Tire Co. in Rutland.

He was a member of Christ the King Church, the American Legion, Knights of Columbus and Elks Club. Surviving are nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his wife, Florence (Daly) Abel in 1991 and by two brothers, Richard W. Abel in 1980 and Jack Abel in 1993.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at Christ the King Church in Rutland. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery.

Visiting hours will be held Saturday from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Clifford Funeral Home in Rutland.
