May E. Abel was born on October 3, 1874 in Prince William County, VA. The daughter of William Grandison Abel, May married Maurice Morris Abel, the son of Robert Allen Abel, on August 15, 1894. They moved from Kopp, VA in 1942 when their farm, along with many others, was taken by the Marine Corps as a part of the rapid expansion of the Quantico Marine Corps Base. They ended up in a small home on the northbound side of U.S. Route One in Fairfax County, just about a mile south of where the old Mt Vernon High School is located. May's oldest daughter Hattie Abel Woolfenden Hinton, is buried at the Belle Haven Cemetery at the old Kopp, VA community aboard the Quantico Marine Corps Base.
