Ruth was born July 5, 1922, daughter of George and Dora (Schoenmier) Reiswig in Thor, Iowa. Ruth attended country school and later married Gordon Abel in St. Paul, Minnesota. The couple lived in Chaska, Minnesota, until 1942. They moved to St. Paul while Gordon worked in construction. Ruth took care of their home and raised their son Steven. Ruth's hobbies included gardening, flowers, cooking, and reading books and magazines.
Ruth died February 25, 2001 at the Knute Nelson Memoiral Home at the age of 78. She is survived by her son Steven (Glenda) Abel of Miltona; two grandchildren: David Abel of Blaine; Diane (Jeffery) Hutchinson of Minneapolis; two great grandchildren; brother George Reiswig of St. Paul; and two sisters: Mary Tobias of Bruno and Lillian McGinnis of Lafayette, OR. She was preceded in death by her husband Gordon, her parents and brother Edwin.
A funeral service was held March 2, 2002 from the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witness with Ernest Symanietz officiating. Interment was in Geneva Cemetery. Pallbearers were Scott Eckel, Dale Eckel, Kevin Eckel, Gerald Eckel, David Abel and Jeff Hutchinson. Arrangements were by Anderson Funeral Home.
