David Abbott was born in Long Beach, California and died in Stanwood, Washington. David was the youngest of three children, preceded in death by his father, Frank, his mother Lillian, his brother, Paul, and his sister, Beatrice. He graduated from Long Beach Poly High School and Seattle Pacific College, and went on to attend San Diego State College, University of Southern California, and Fuller Theological Seminary, earning a Masters in Divinity degree.
David married Mildred Rust, his high school sweetheart,in 1943. He served in the US Navy during World War II, achieving the rank of 2nd Class Petty Officer. After seminary David ministered as pastor in Southern California, Arizona, Oregon, and Washington. He was elected superintendent of the Pacific Northwest Conference Free Methodist Church, serving for ten years covering a region from Washington to Alaska. He also served on the board of trustees of Seattle Pacific University and Western Evangelical Seminary.
David enjoyed his family and anyone who came around. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Mildred Marie Abbott , their five sons David (Shari), Greg (Madeline), Martin (Georgene), Paul (Kathy), Philip (Lottie), nine grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.
A celebration of David 's life will be held on Saturday, February 5, @ 2:00pm at Warm Beach Free Methodist Church. Military burial service will take place at Tahoma National Cemetery on Monday, February 7, 2011, @ 1:00.
Remembrances may be made in David 's memory to Warm Beach Conference Center or Seattle Pacific University.
