Basil E. Abbott 84, long time Valley resident, passed away Sunday evening. May 10, 1987, at the Cashmere Convalescent Center. He was born Jan. 30, 1903, at Breedsville, Mich, and moved to Davenport in 1905 and then to Cashmere in 1907.

He attended Cashmere High School and was united in marriage to Mabel Auvil June 30, 1921 at Entiat. They farmed in Ollala Canyon and from 1938 to 1963 he was foreman at the Maxwell Ranch in Dryden. They lived in Orondo from 1968 to 1972 when they retired to Cashmere. He was a member of the Cashmere Grace Lutheran Church, the Wenatchee Eagles 204, Cashmere Grange 380 and Chelan County Pomona Grange.

Surviving are his wife Mabel, two daughters, Ida Wheeler of Cashmere and Florence Watters of Spokane; two sons, Richard E. Abbott of Spokane and Edwin B. Abbott of Medford, 15 grandchildren, 30 greatgrandchildren, a sister, Neta Eddy Rhodes of Grandview, and a brother, Shirley Eddy of Bogalusa, La.

He was preceded in death by a son, Walter, in 1980; two grandsons and a brother and a sister. Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at the Cashmere Grace Lutheran Church with Pastor Mark Nelson officiating. Wayne Abbott will be soloist and Marilyn Orcutt will be the organist. Private family interment will precede the service at the Cashmere cemetery.
