John Wilson Abbott passed away peacefully on February 4, 2011, surrounded by his family. He fought a long and courageous battle with many illnesses, always showing his great faith in God and his own healing strengths. John was born in O'Neill, Nebraska on October 23, 1932. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, three sons, three grandchildren and four siblings. His brothers Duane and Vernon predeceased him. He is also survived by his wife's sisters and their husbands and families, whom he considered his own family.
John served in the U.S. Naval Reserve and the Marine Corps in Korea. John graduated from BHS in 1951, WWU in 1958 and had many additional years of education. John retired from the Meridian School District in 1988 after 30 years as a successful teacher, counselor, coach and mentor to many students. He spent many summers logging, fishing and workings as a strawberry boss. John was active in church work as a superintendent, teacher, committees and board member. John and his wife enjoyed many years traveling abroad, (mostly in warm, tropical climates) and in the U.S. John's family and friends were the world to him. His big smile, genuine kindness, wonderful sense of humor and love of life touched everyone who knew him.
