At Chickamauga, Sept. 19, 1863, under General George Thomas, XIV Corp, 1st Div., Late in the day the 21st moved across Kelly's Field to the Southeast in support of a Battery of Guns to a location Northwest of Winfrey Field. (See monument #1082). Fighting late in the day and into the night. The guns were over run by the CSA. At this is the spot is were Alfred was captured. The 21st then fell back to just east of Kelly's Field (Now Battle Line Road, see monument #1081)
