Services for Cloise Abbott, 71, who died at his home in Cottonwood Point September 7th, were held Friday at 2 p.m. in the Cottonwood Baptist Church with the Rev. Adrain Knipper and the Rev. James Razer officiating. Burial was in Maple Cemetery with H.S. Smith Funeral Home of Caruthersville in charge of arrangements.
He was born October 14th, 1905 in Caruthersville, the son of the late James and Vanta Abbott. He married Mrs. Dorothy Sweat January 7th, 1947 in Piggott, Ark.
He was a member of the Cottonwood Baptist Church and belonged to American Legion Post 88. He worked on the Mississippi River as an oiler and engineer for the Hutchison Barge Line of St. Paul, Miss., before retiring several years ago.
Survivors include his wife of the home; two step-sons Earl Sweat of Memphis, Tenn. and Carl Sweat Jr. of St. Louis, one step-daughter, Mrs. Johnie Linsman of Cottonwood Point, three brothers, John and Melvin Abbott, both of Cottonwood Point; and Charlie Abbott of Caruthersville; one half-sister Mrs. Vernie Potter Abbott of Cottonwood Point; nine step-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren.
