CLARE COUNTY PIONEER DIES AT DAUGHTER’S HOME

Mrs. Almeda Abbott, a pioneer resident of this community, passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Elmer Smith at Williamston, Michigan, Friday evening of last week.

Almeda Lyons, the daughter of Elizabeth and Wm. Riley Lyons, was born June 29, 1865, at Lockport, Illinois, and died August 17, 1945, at the age of eighty years, one month, and nineteen days.

At the age of sixteen she came with her parents to Clare. They settled four miles north of Clare.

June 19, 1888, she was united in marriage with George Abbott, of Lapeer county, Michigan. They made their home in the Dover community their entire married life, until his death March 14, 1932.

To this union were born six children, of which three survive, one daughter, Mrs. Bernice Smith; of Williamston, Michigan, and two sous. George, of Jasper, Michigan, and Nial, of Harrison; besides other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services were held from the Clare Baptist Church at 2:00 o’clock Monday afternoon, with Rev. Chas. Kleinhardt officiating, assisted by Rev. E. E. Redman, and interment at Cherry Grove Cemetery. Clare Sentinel dated 24 August 1945
