Lewis Abbott, the son of Amos Abbott and Lydia Moore, was born at Wayland, Middlesex County, Massachusetts. On June 22, 1829 he married Ann Marsh at Wayland and during his life he lived in Wayland, Middlesex County, Massachusetts, the counties of Clay and Caldwell in Missouri and at Quincy, Adams County, Illinois around 1840. His family eventually gathered with the Saints at Nauvoo, Hancock County, Illinois and records indicate that he paid Nauvoo City taxes from 1843-1844. He and Lydia received their endowments in the Nauvoo Temple December 17, 1845 and were sealed January 20, 1846. During the exodus they crossed the plains in the John Van Cott Company in 1847 and settled in the Great Salt Lake Valley and later in Farmington, Davis County, Utah in 1850. Lewis' vocation was that of a farmer and he also served on the first Salt Lake City High Council. His death was perhaps due to an earlier beating he had received from a mob prior to his removal to the West. In 1850, Lewis had $150.00 in real wealth. He and Lydia were the parents of five children: Abigail, born April 25, 1830 at Wayland, Middlesex, Massachusetts. Thomas Marsh, born January 1, 1832 at Wayland, Middlesex, Massachusetts. Ammon, born March 2, 1834 at Quincy, Adams, Illinois. Eliza Ann, born September 2, 1835 at Quincy, Adams, Illinois, and Joseph, born October 31, 1840 at Ambrosia, Lee, Iowa.
