Ms. Karla Aalberts, age 65, of Orange City, passed away on Friday, March 27, 2015, at her residence.

Karla Jo was born on November 20, 1949, in Sacramento, California, the daughter of Einar Eric and Dorothy Fern (Goodknight) Eknes. Her father was in the air force, so she was raised in several places, including Delaware, New York, and South Carolina.

In 1963, they moved to Orange City, where she graduated from the Maurice-Orange City High School and Northwestern College. She earned her Masters degree in psychology at the California State College in Long Beach.

Karla married Michael Elwood Aalberts, and they later divorced.

For most of her life, she lived in California. Her last career was as a tax analyst for a software company. In 2010, she returned to Orange City.

Ms. Aalberts enjoyed reading and watching television. She was an avid movie fan and restored a green Volkswagon bug.

Survivors include her son, Gregory Aalberts, of Hiawatha; two sisters and a brother and their spouses, Katherine "Kay" and James De Jong, of Orange City; Kent and Judy Eknes, of Rock Valley; and Kim and David Kerkhoff, of Burlington, Wisconsin; nephews and nieces and great-nephews and great-nieces, Johnny and Terri Cihota, and their children, Kelsey, Kathleen, and John Edward III; Jerry and Holly Cihota, and their children, Mikayla, Zachary, and Jack; Janelle and Jason De Jong, and their sons, Korbyn and Kaden; Kirk and Victoria Eknes, and their daughters, Brooke, Ainsley, and Morgan; Trisha Eknes; Erik Kerkhoff; and Elliot Kerkhoff.

She remained close to Mike's two sisters and their families, Bonnie Overman; her children, April and Steve De Kam, and their sons, Noah and Gavin; and Tracy and Eric Punt, and their sons, Cole and Landon; and Barb and Warren Jager, and their children, Tim Jager; and Sarah and Joe Kennedy, and their son, Jax.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother-in-law, Wesley Overman.
