Claude E. Whitebread
Family farmer, longtime school bus operator
Claude E. Whitebread, 86, of Hobbie died peacefully at 6:05 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2013, in Berwick Retirement Village II.
Born in Hobbie on Aug. 14, 1926, a son of the late Homer T. and Bessie Moyer Whitebread, he operated the family farm. For 52 years, he also was a school bus owner and operator. At one time, he was employed by Zeiser Vault Co.
An active member of St. James Lutheran Church, Hobbie, he served on church council and the cemetery association. He loved to take care of his home, his outdoor decorations and just being busy.
Preceding him in death on July 27, 2009, was his wife of 64 years, the former Getha I. Hoch; and his brother, Elwood, in 1959.
Surviving are three daughters: Lois Soberick and husband, Bill, Berwick; Judy Miller and Betty Rinehimer and husband, George, all of Hobbie; nine grandchildren: Kim, Kristi, Kellie, Karen, Julie, Lauren, Crystal, Kaela and Andrew; eight great-grandchildren; brother, George Rinehimer, and wife, Marion, Berwick; and several nieces and nephews.
Entrusted to the care of the Heller Funeral Home, Nescopeck, where private services will be held with the Rev. Rachael C. Dietz, his pastor, presiding. Burial will follow in St. James Lutheran Cemetery, Hobbie. No calling hours.
