Mary Christine Hines Hagan Jaap, 61, died Monday, June 8, 2009 surrounded by family. While born in Providence, RI, Christy made her home in Norfolk and later in Williamsburg.
She was a graduate of Norfolk Catholic High School class of 1966 and an alumnus of Old Dominion University. She was a professor of English at University of Phoenix.
She will be remembered for her vivaciousness, exuberance and selflessness. She was loved by many and will be greatly missed. She was predeceased by her husband Michael Downey Hagan; her mother, Virginia Hines; and her brother Michael Hines. She is survived by her husband, Captain Joseph Davies Jaap of Williamsburg; her father Commander Edward Corbett Hines Jr. of Rockville, MD; brothers Edward Corbett Hines III of Hampton; William Joseph Hines and his wife Deborah of Arnold, MD; Peter Hines and his wife Miriam of Gainesville, Florida; James Hines and his wife Cindy of Monrovia, MD; Stephen V. Hines and his wife Lisa of Manila Philippines; her sister Amy Hines Whittington and her husband Bill; her four children, Colleen Hagan Egl and her husband Johannes of Chatham, NJ; Mark Downey Hagan and his wife Melanie of Norfolk; Patrick Corbett Hagan and his wife Elaine of Norfolk; Christopher Parker Hagan and Heather Sites of Virginia Beach; her step-children Mary Frances Jaap Bellman and her husband Timothy of Wimbledon, England; Rowena Jaap Post and her husband Brett of Laurel, MD; Joseph D. Jaap, Jr. and his wife Lori of Gleneg, MD; 11 grandchildren: Michael Downey Hagan II; Hannah Downey Egl; Benjamin Thomas Hagan; Laura Marie Hagan; Lena Brooke Egl; Lily Marie Hagan; Josephine Bellman; Grace Bellman; Payton Jaap; Zachary Jaap; Ethan Post and her beloved dog Belle.
The family will receive visitors at Sacred Heart Church, 520 Graydon Avenue, Norfolk on Thursday, June 11 at 7:00 p.m. A funeral will be held at Sacred Heart Church, the following day, on Friday, June 12 at 11:00 a.m.
