Arnold Gary Burgener, a prominent insurance man, died on Monday, June 30, 2008 in Holladay, Utah. His death was caused from a fast growing form of Melanoma that was diagnosed 16 months earlier. His strong spirit fought valiantly, but eventually he lost the battle.

Gary was born on May 29, 1934 to Arnold Earl Burgener and Margaret Kristine Burgener. He was the eldest of three children. He attended grammar school and jr. high school on the East bench of Salt Lake City. In his youth he loved camping in the Uintah Mountains. In fact, the whole family enjoyed the out of doors whether in Utah, or their frequent trips to Jackson Hole, Wyoming. His father then moved the entire family to the Cottonwood area where he graduated from Granite High School. Continuing his education, he attended the University of Utah and Brigham Young University. It was at BYU where he met the love of his life, Shirlee Webb. While arranging a blind date for a friend with Shirlee, he decided to keep the little blond from California for himself. They were married one year later in the Salt Lake Temple and settled down to start a family here in Utah. In 1955, Gary began his insurance career working with his father. His first job was working in the typing pool. Being extremely innovative and a brilliant visionary, he eventually became the CEO and built his company into one of the most successful businesses of its kind in the United States today. Gary's love for the insurance business is only exceeded by his love for his beautiful wife, his three children and his granddaughter. Each of his daughters worked as managers for Gary's company for over 20 years. His son worked with him over 35 years, serving for 15 years as president and is currently CEO. Gary joined the army reserve in 1955, serving in the Jag Core, retiring as masters specialist after six years. He was an active member of the LDS church and served as a High Priest in the Cottonwood 5th Ward. He held many positions in the service of his Heavenly Father. Gary was a valiant servant with great integrity Gary was a true Utahn, he loved the diversity of the state, from the red cliffs of Dixie to his beloved Bear Lake.
