My great-grandmother's death certificate, found in Jan. 2013, shows her burial site as "State Grave #1773". Also indicates she "resided" at Patton State Hospital for 29 years, 3 months, and 29 days. She died at the age of 61, having been committed in August 1897 to the formerly named Highland Insane Asylum, when her youngest son, my grandfather, was only 18 months old.
Her granddaughter, my mother, only just learned of her grandmother's life history and fate this month for the first time. Cornelia's first name was misspelled on 3 census records ("Cordelia") & was only finally corrected on her death certificate.
May she rest in peace now that she has been found again. We will never know her story, but at least we have some closure.
