William F. Barnwell "Bill", 85, Watsontown, passed away Friday, March 23, 2012 at his home.
Born January 21, 1927 in Wilkes-Barre, he was the son of the late William Francis and Eleanor (Westley) Barnwell. On September 10, 1950 he married Elizabeth Sonder "Betty" and they had celebrated 61 years of marriage.
William was a 1945 graduate of Watsontown High School and a 60 year member of the Watsontown United Church of Christ. He was a 50 year member of the American Legion and served as a Military Honor Guard for funerals in his later years. He was an US Army Veteran serving during WWII as a medic for the 88th Infantry (Blue Devils). William worked as a truck driver for Jasper Wood Products of Watsontown for 42 years. In William's free time he greatly enjoyed traveling over seas and camping with his family at the beach. He had a great love for his family and loved spending time with his Grandchildren and Great-Grandchildren.
Surviving in addition to his wife is a son and daughter-in-law: William and wife Dolly Barnwell of Chagrin Falls, Ohio; a daughter and son-in-law: Candace and husband Harry Byers of Watsontown; two brothers and sister-in-laws, Norbert and wife Betty Barnwell of Milton; Eugene and wife Vallery Barnwell of McEwensville; A sister and brother-in-law: Peggy and husband Bond Brungard of Williamsport; four grandchildren: Tracie and husband Brent Follmer, Shanna and husband Scott Rough, Brittany and MaKenzie Barnwell: three Great-Grandchildren and many Nieces and Nephews.
In addition to his parents, William was predeceased by two sisters; Clair Jones and Helen Doebler, two brothers; Carl Francis and Robert Barnwell.
Family and friends are invited to call from 10 to 11 AM Tuesday at Brooks Funeral Home, 124 Main Street,Watsontown where the funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM with Pastor Shawn McNett officiating. Burial with full Military Honors will follow in Watsontown Cemetery.
In Lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions in his memory be made to Evangelical Hospice, 1 Hospital Dr., Lewisburg, PA 17837 or the Watsontown United Church of Christ Memorial Fund, 602 Main Street, Watsontown, PA 17777.
