Count of Evreux
Richard was the eldest son of Robert II d'Evreux, Archbishop of Rouen and Count of Evereaux and Herleva. Grandson of Richard I "Sans Peur" Earl of Rouen and Gonnor de Crepon of Denmark. He was a direct descendant of William Longspee and Rollo Rognvaldson of Norway. Richard was born about 986.
Richard married Godechildis or Adelaide, the daughter of Raymond Borel and Erminsinde of Carrassonne, also the widow of Roger de Toeni I, the Spaniard Le Conches who was killed in battle against Roger de Beaumont in 1038. They had the following children:
* William, Count of Evreux
* Godehildis, abbess of St Sauveur
* Agnes, wife of Simon I de Montfort
Other records show two wives, Adelaide, daughter of Borel widow of Roger de Toeni, Godehildis, parentage unknown, also widow of Roger de Toeni.
Richard and Godechildis founded St Sauveur. Richard is mentioned in the charters of King William I (William the Conqueror) as the abbey's benefactor.
His son, William, was one of the companions to William I at the Battle of Hastings, contributing 80 ships to the invasion of England in 1066.
