Lois B. (Witham) Reed, 78, of West Plymouth, died Friday at Huggins Hospital in Wolfeboro after a brief illness. Born in Northfield, Vt., she had resided in several New Hampshire and Vermont communities. Mrs Reed was a registered nurse, trained at the Claremont Hospital and worked in Grantham and Springfield as a district nurse. She was a public health nurse for many years in the Plymouth are and was one of the organizers of the Pemi-Baker Home Health Agency. She was a member of the Plymouth Congregational Church, the State Employees of New Hampshire Retired, the Pemigewasset Fish and Game Club, the AARP, the New Hampshire Nurses Association, the Plymouth American Legion Auxiliary, the Pemi-Baker Senior Citizens Club, the Belknap-Merrimack Salon 8 & 40, and the Plymouth Grange. Mrs. Reed had wintered in Orlando, Fla. for many years. She was the widow of Carlton Barton who died in 1949 and was the widow of Clarence J. Reed who died in 1976.
Family members include a son, Richard Barton of Melvin Village; a daughter, Mrs. Priscilla Knowles of Loudon; one step-daughter, Louise Luhrs of Boulder, Colorado; a brother, Cederic N. Witham of Laconia; four sisters, Wyoma Welch of Plymouth, Charlotte Noyes of Laconia, Miss Minnie Witham of West Plymouth and Orlando, Florida, and Mrs Viola Gardner of North Hartland, Vt.; 16 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday at the Plymouth Congregational Church. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. Friends and relatives may call Tuesday evening from 7 to 9 at LaFontaine Funeral Home.
