At age 17 he was 42 inches and weighted 40 pounds and was billed as the smallest man in the world. In 1910 he went to work for the Brown Shoe Company of St. Louis, promoting Buster Brown Shoes. He played the part of Buster Brown for 28 years, donning a blond wig, red suit, red hat, knickers, blue tie, white shirt with Buster Brown collar. He traveled with a Boston Terrier named Tige. He traveled 50,000 miles a year by train and playing all the major whistle stops. His stage presence also included "Hi! I'm Buster Brown; I live in a shoe, This is my dog Tige. He lives there, too."

He was known as the smallest Mason in the World. He was also a Knights Templar.The 50-inch midget who was the model for the cartoon character Buster Brown in 1910 and then for the next 27 years traveled across the U.S. with a blond wig, knickers, and a Boston terrier named Tige to promote children's footwear for the Brown Shoe Company.

William Edmond Ansley (Nov 11 1888-Sept 26, 1972) Ansley traveled the country for 27 years promoting Buster Brown children's shoes with his dog Tige. From 1908 to 1935, the 42 in. dwarf appeared in a blonde wig, blue tie, red suit and hat, know as Buster Brown. He lived in Hugo until his death in 1972. "He was quite a Character."
